Drag racer Rod Harrison from Manea has become the first driver to run 200mph on the newly laid track at Santa Pod Raceway at Northampton in the first round of the British Drag Racing Championship.

Rod, racing the family’s 2000hp V8 Hemi ‘Blown Budget’ funny car in the Super-Pro-ET class, ran a 7.10 second ¼ mile at a speed of 206mph in his first round qualifying round over Easter weekend. On his second qualifying run he produced a 7.14 second ¼ mile at 202mph.

Rod qualified seventh in class but in the eliminations he suffered a blown engine. He hopes to repair the engine in time for the main event at Santa Pod in May.

Rod thanks his wife Kim, his son Karl for getting the car ready, and also Andy, Jonno and Stuart for crewing for the team.
