CHATTERIS Boxing Club’s new starlet Ryan Williams certainly did not let down the fans at the club’s dinner show on Saturday when he was named the boxer of the night.

The 10-year-old from March was having his first skills bout but certainly did not disappoint against Michael Durning of Cambridge with a very good display.

His coach Paul Gill who rates Williams as the best youngster he has had at the club said: “Ryan boxed really well and even the referee said after the bout he was going to be a very good boxer.”

After that opening bout the Chatteris club did not enjoy a lot of success with youngsters Ryan Ducker, Dean Baxter and George Chrysanthou all losing tight bouts on points.

Gill added: “They all boxed well but they are all 13-year-olds and it was good education for them. But we had a very good night for the club with an excellent turn out.”

The Wisbech Boxing Club had two winners on the night with Markos Mylozis putting in a very good display to beat Richard Zdrenka of Bury St Edmunds with a unanimous points decision.

The 13-year-old Brandon Smith also impressed when he won his first competitive bout beating Jake Browning of Haddenham with a unanimous decision also.
