Wymondham 3rd 12pts, Wisbech 3rds 18
Wisbech seconds notched up an important away win in the Norfolk Rugby Merit Table on Saturday.
The victory was very much down to skipper Olly Mackett’s ability to persuade young players to play for him.
“It was an very entertaining performance,” said club manager Cliff Humphreys. “It was great to see a Wisbech team play with such pride and passion.”
The pack set the platform securing good ball for scrum half Jack Malkin to feed the backs led by Dan Roberts at fly half. Virtually from the kick off Malkin slotted over a penalty from halfway. Midway through the half prop Raimondas Vinksa scored out wide.
In the second half an excellent move saw man of the match Connor Lucas cut through the home defence and pass to fellow centre Adam Bunton who went over. Again from a power run Raimos scored his second try.
Backs Harry Newman and James Macelduff impressed. Phil Cooper in the second row continues to improve.
The first team are back in league action at home to Harlow on Saturday, kick off at 3pm. The weekend results did not do Wisbech’s survival chances any favours as fellow strugglers Beccles beat high flyers Cantabs to secure four points.
Humphreys added: “If we do get relegated to Eastern Counties 1, I am confident, thanks to the efforts of Olly Mackett, that there are enough young talented players in the club to start the rebuilding process next season.”
