On Tuesday the McClure family arrived four strong with dad, Doug, jumping into second position with a 23.01 ride just over a minute behind top vet, Paul Ashby on 21.52.

Even more remarkable was the 23.52 pb recorded by 14-year old junior, Jonny McClure in his first outing this season putting him in front of his older brothers Mat and James on 24.18 and 24.30 respectively.

Another Wisbech junior, James Ashby, no relation to Paul, also put in a pb with 27.25.

There was a record entry for the Wisbech Wheelers Open ‘25’ on Sunday but the cold kept many riders away, Of 70 riders who braved the elements, the fastest was veteran, Peter Balls of West Suffolk Wheelers in 53.53 followed up by two from the King’s Lynn club, Daniel Bloy on 54.42 and veteran, Gary Rushmore with 54.56.

The quickest junior was the Wisbech club’s newest speed merchant, Jonny McClure in 1.04.09.
