Students from across Britain are being invited to Newmarket Racecourses to find a dream job in the horse racing industry.

The second annual ‘Racing For Jobs’ takes place on Dubai Future Champions Day on the Rowley Mile on Saturday 12 October.

It’s the best day of horse racing in the world for young racehorses – with over £1 million in prize-money on offer for the future champions of the sport – and the cream of undergraduates and graduates are on track too for a career in Britain’s second most popular sport and one which employs over 100,000 people.

All students aged under 25 will be given free admission into the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure on the day.

A host of organisations in the racing industry will be at the jobs fair, offering advice to young people about careers in the sport.

They will include The Jockey Club, The National Stud, the British Racing School, Anglia Ruskin University, the British Horseracing Education and Standard Trust, the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association’s ‘Next Generation Club’, Careers In Racing, Great British Racing and Oxford Brookes University, plus Warwickshire College, Writtle College (Essex University) and Moulton College.

In the morning, and for the second year, Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket will offer an insight over brunch into Darley Flying Start, a two-year, international management training programme for future thoroughbred industry leaders.

The event includes a tour of the stud and stallion parade, with advice from past and present graduates and students.

Among the day’s afternoon’s activities at the racecourse:

Question and answer sessions with racehorse trainers Ed Walker and Amy Weaver, plus other racing industry professionals;

Guided trips to the start of the races in conjunction with The National Stud;

An alternative racing twist, with current World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff – official ‘ambassador’ of Newmarket Racecourses - taking questions about his ‘racing’ career;

Great British Racing’s ‘Kids Love The Races’ road show;

Exclusive student bar selling mocktails/soft drinks for students only on Hyperion Lawn.

Dubai Future Champions Day is the highest quality day of racing for two-year-old colts and fillies in the world.

Held for the first time two years ago, the day features six Group races. The two Group 1 races, two Group 2s and two Group 3s, plus the long distance handicap, the £250,000 Betfred Cesarewitch, provide a feast of racing. They races include the £350,000 Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes and the Middle Park Stakes.

Amy Starkey, Regional Director East, of Jockey Club Racecourses, herself a graduate entrant into the racing industry, said: “We were delighted with the success of the first ‘Racing for Jobs’ event last year and it’s going to be bigger and better in 2013 when we showcase the career opportunities within racing for the student ‘future champions’ of tomorrow.”
