Sutton 2nd celebrate promotion

St Neots 2nds 0,
Long Sutton Mens’ 2nd 3

Long Sutton secured promotion from Div 4NW with an accomplished display.

Following a stirring half-time team talk from captain Matt Holmes, Sutton began the second half with more focus and composure.

Nick Bailey finished a good short corner routine following another great pass from MoM Jeremy Watt. Ben Shore scored and Bailey found his strike partner Shore who flicked his second.

Holmes said: “We still have three games left and a chance of winning the league.”

Crostyx 1,
Long Sutton Men 2

Sutton returned from London on Saturday with a valuable three points in this Prem B fixture.

Sisson squared for Allen to expertly slot home, while Fyson’s penalty corner was cleared off the line. Crostyx equalised but again excellent work from Sisson allowed him to pinch the ball and find Hales who rounded the keeper and smashed home.

Spalding 4ths 1,
Long Sutton Mens’ 3rds 1

Captain for the day Nick Worth organised his young charges with almost military precision, ably assisted by M0M Josh Thody in goal.

After fine work from Jason Mallet, Scott Ingram finished with aplomb.

Long Sutton Mens’ 4th 2, Leadenham 5

Leadenham, crowned Div6NW champions, found themselves in a dogfight.

John Sullivan rolled back the years with a fine solo effort and Andy Clarke grabbed his first goal of the season. The defence of Jeremy Smith, Simon Wakeham, Ollie Gayford and MoM David Shire played exceptionally.

Long Sutton Ladies 1,
Dereham 1

In a stunning performance a goalbound effort from Leanne Woodhead was stopped on the Dereham goal line by a defender’s foot; however the umpire only awarded a short corner which Sutton failed to convert.

Sutton broke the deadlock with 12 minutes to go. Kate Ireland neatly deflecting in. Late on Sutton conceded a needless short corner which Dereham converted.

PoM: Jess Hudson.

Boston 3,
Long Sutton Ladies 2nds 1

Boston were the better finishers although Long Sutton failed to capitalise on some hard fought short corners. PoM: Rachel Gadsden.
