Long Sutton 5,
Harleston Magpies 2nds 4
Long Sutton almost contrived to throw away a three-goal lead but held on to pick three more precious Premier B points.
The home team opened the scoring with a fine goal created by Ashley Taylor and Nick Ellis and finished by an unstoppable Nick Bailey deflection.
The first half was a tight affair with Sutton defending well with Andy Shore and Josh Fyson again starring and Jamie Featherstone displaying all his qualities with a high energy display on the left.
After the interval the visitors started strongly and Sutton were soon on the back foot. A challenge in the circle resulted in the away side drawing level from a penalty.
Sutton promptly went ahead again when good work from Fyson allowed Ellis to cross for Gary Hales to provide the deftest of finishes.
Harleston forced a number of corners before a well-worked move drew them level again. The hosts then found another gear as they scored three quick goals, the first as Ellis cut in off the wing and drove into the circle before finding Bailey who in turn left Hales with a tap in.
Danny Sisson then turned provider from the left with a fabulous reverse stick cross to find Bailey who finished with a clever deflection.
The fifth goal came from another good move down the left and Bailey was on hand to complete an excellent hat-trick.
The home team then allowed Harleston a route back as they switched off and let a player run from deep unchallenged before lashing the ball home.
The visitors then got back within a goal after some scrappy defending allowed them in on the right.
Sutton regained their composure and good work particularly from Hales saw them run down the clock.
This Saturday sees a visit to table topping Dereham in what promises to be another tough encounter.
