Two girls set regional times

There were more outstanding swims in week 2 of the Wisbech SC Championships.

Grace Cherry, already with four club records from the previous week, continued her good form in the 10/11yrs 200m Individual Medley, 100m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke.

The following swimmers were also successful in setting new WSC records: Ben Marsters in the 17yrs+ 100m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke. Oliver Newton and Abigail Foley 12/13yrs, Tom Kelly and Emily Pilbeam 14-16yrs, David Hammond and Katie Bell 17yrs+ in the 100m Individual Medley. Luke Hemsley and Erin Wright in the 200m Individual Medley. Furthermore, Hannah Brown 100m Backstroke and Phoebe Gallagher 200m Breaststroke both achieved regional qualifying times. The Championships closed with 22 new club records set and seven regional qualifying times achieved.

l Chatteris Kingfishers Swimming Club held their annual award presentation evening, following the winter club championships in November, at the Conservative Club in Chatteris on Friday evening.

In the teaching classes the girls novice award was won by Missy Welch, with Melissa Albert and Ashliegh Stringer in joint second place and Rosie Scott in third. For the boys the winner was Harry Pouley, runner-up Charlie Munns and third for Andreas Ingrey.

The girls apprentice award was won by Hannah Venni, second Kira Richards and Evie Woodhouse and joint third were Leanne Walsh and Naomi Lambert di Marco. For the boys the cup went to Shea Kennely, second Kylan Nightingale and third Jacob Eshelby.

The highest grades competed for the junior award and for the girls the winner was Megan Dawson, runner-up Bonnie Scott and for the boys the winner was Zac White, followed by Hugo Bryant and Jack James in second and Gabriel Welch and Kobe Nightingale in third. A special butterfly award was given to Gabriel Welch. A total of 40 were given a certificate for having taken part in the championships.

The intermediate and senior squad competed for trophies in a series of races. Winner, 9 year age group: Tyler Thomas, 2nd Finley Harper; 10 year girls: Lydia Gray. Boys 11/u trophy: Daniel Riches, Mason Christy runner-up. Girls 13/U: Mollie Allen, 2nd Catherine Lee, 3rd Victoria Allen. Winner 13/U boys: Liam Oliver.

14/15 years: Matthijs Nooteboom, Ivo Nooteboom second and Matthew Halmshaw third. Girls winner: Charlotte Riches. Girls 16/17 years old: Kirsty Slyfield, boys: Ashley Starreveld, with Luke Oliver also swimming, but not all of the races; Masters Boys trophy: 1st Mark Thompson, 2nd Gary Smith.

For each age group, trophies were also awarded for the overall winners and they were: Geoff Plum Challenge Cup for 9/u boys Tyler Thomas, Kingfishers Challenge Cup for 9/u girls: Lydia Gray. DJ Garden’s Challenge Cup for 11/U boys: Daniel Riches and the George Clare Perpetual Shield for 12/13 year girls: Mollie Allen. The Broughton Cup for 13/U boys: Liam Oliver and the Lovell and Ward Challenge Cup for girls 14/15 years: Charlotte Riches. The C and G Coaches Challenge Trophy for 14/15 year boys: Matthijs Nooteboom and the Loveridge Perpetual Challenge Cup for girls 16/17 years: Kirsty Slyfield. The Rustler Produce Challenge Trophy for 16/17 year boys: Ashley Starreveld. The Kingfishers Masters Cup: Mark Thompson.

Teaching groups the Ferry Hill Fencing Novice Shield went to Missy Welch and the Mystique Novice Cup: Harry Pouley. The Apprentice Girls Cup from Chatteris Osteopaths: Hannah Venni; the Keith Weall Apprentice boys Cup: Shea Kennely. The Keith Silk Cup for Junior Girls: Megan Dawson and the Cliff Smith Cup for Junior Boys: Zac White.

Special coaches awards from outgoing coach Jo Pearce were awarded as follows: Most improved Junior girl, Petrou Brothers Challenge Cup: Lydia Gray. Most improved junior boy, Mortgage Force Perpetual Challenge Cup: Daniel Riches. Most improved senior girl, Chatteris Working Mens Challenge Cup: Catherine Lee. Most improved senior boy, Accountz Champions Cup: Matthijs Nooteboom. The Endeavour Cups for swimers who keep trying: Rachel Lee, Mowatt trophy for junior girls: Mason Christy, the Oakes trophy for junior boys. Victoria Allen got the Senior Endeavour girls Shield and Ashley Starreveld won the Stephen Hillard trophy for senior boys.

The Rotary club of Chatteris Coaches Award: Mollie Allen. The Percy Smith Award for the Adult Contribution to the club: Andy Oliver. The outgoing captains of this last year were Mollie Allen, Liam Oliver, Kirsty Slyfield and Gary Smith. New captains will be chosen in the New Year.
