Unbeaten 2nds’ Dunn deal

Watton 2,

Long Sutton Ladies 3

Sutton knew that defeat would almost certainly mean an end to their Div 1 status.

Watton played the ball around well which belied their position in the league behind Sutton. Just before half time - completely against the run of play - Leanne Woodhead played an excellent first time ball to Robyn Gribble who expertly rounded the keeper to slot home.

Watton went 2-1 up but Sutton won a short corner which Woodhead slotted home, and Lou Southgate scored after good work by Gribble and Woodhead. Man of the match was Tania White.

Harleston Magpies 2nds 5,
Long Sutton Men 1

Sutton started slowly on the water based pitch and Harleston were just too strong.

An error allowed Harleston the lead and soon after Sutton keeper Clarke injured himself, but remained in goal and made some excellent saves. Sutton conceded two goals in each half before a lovely move saw Hales pull one back.

Long Sutton Mens’ 2nd 3, Spalding 2nds 2

Promotion-chasing Sutton started at a very high tempo and within five minutes were 2-0 up.

Danny Batten showed his pace and stick skills to open the scoring before Nick Bailey made it 2-0, flicking the ball up hurling style before chipping the keeper.

Spalding equalised before half-time. Player of the Match Lovegrove laid the ball into Ben Shore who finished for the winner after the break.

Long Sutton Mens’ 4th 1, Long Sutton 3rds 4

The last of this season’s Division 6NW inter-club derbies saw Sutton’s third team complete a clean sweep.

The fourths’ Jason Mallet opened the scoring with a bullet from the edge of the D and then claimed his second. Ed White replied but Ian White and Calvin Bishop made it 4-1.

LSHC Mixed 0, Harleston 7

Harleston, boasting National League Players and ex-Internationals, ended Sutton’s run in this Trophy on Sunday.

Captain Sisson and Bailey could have scored a consolation. PoM: Lisa Baker.
