The Easter weekend sees the start of Upwell teenage racing driver Jake Giddings’ assault on the Renault Clio Cup UK Championship at Brands Hatch, where the first two rounds of the highly competitive 16-round series take place.
The 18-year-old College of West Anglia Motorsport student begins his second season in the Clio Cup hoping to continue his improving results at the end of 2012 campaign. He is confident of being a frontrunner in what has been a proven feeder route into the British Touring Car Championship.
Since the BTCC finished last October Giddings had an exhaustive pre-season testing programme. January saw him competing in the Dubai 24-hour race in a Finesse Motorsport Clio alongside Aston Martin GT ace Jonny Adam, which gave him valuable experience using Dunlop rubber, which the Clio Cup UK switches to this year. Later on during the year he will be driving the College of West Anglia Motorsport Formula Ford 1600 in the Avon Tyres Championship, his first sample of single seater racing.
Giddings’ exploits can be followed live on ITV4 as the series is one of the support championships on the BTCC package.
