Wisbech Rugby Club announced that by promoting rugby within the community and by achieving high standards of management the club has been awarded RFU Accreditation.

Effectively the award acknowledges that the club is run in accordance with RFU guidelines and as been achieved because of the hard work and commitment of all those unsung heroes associated with the club.

Ironically Wisbech’s away league fixture to Beccles was called off on Saturday morning due to a waterlogged pitch.

Earlier in the season as a result of a waterlogged pitch the corresponding game at Wisbech was called off. Wisbech were deducted five points which were later reinstated after appeal.

Wisbech remain fourth from bottom despite fellow strugglers Canvey Island winning at home against Cantabs.

“We are still two points clear having played the same number of games,” said spokesperson Cliff Humphreys.

Wisbech won the second team home Norfolk Merit League game against West Norfolk 22-7. There were some excellent performances by a number of players.

l Wisbech Under 9s took part in the Spalding festival.

The boys beat Oakham 3-1 with tries from Tom Hamilton, George Kerr and William Paul.

Wisbech lost 5-6 to Peterborough Lions (tries: Paul, Kerr, Josh Bell and Billy Nurse 2).

The games against Wymondham and Kestevens both ended 1-1 with tries again from Kerr and Nurse.
