Racing at the fiercely competitive Zandvoort Masters, Carlin driver from Wisbech George Russell continued his return to the podium with an impressive result.

Russell saw off Sergio Sette Camara and Sam MacLeod shortly after the start in a three-way tussle for second place and after that he never looked back.

Russell said: “We had a very good weekend coming away with a podium in P2 for the Zandvoort Masters. Obviously for a one off race like this, everyone is going for the win but still to come away 2nd was a great result for us.

“The weekend was run on Kumho Tyres compared to the Handkook Tyres we use in the FIA F3, so this was my first time using them. This was something we had to learn and get our heads around quickly before we came to the race.

“Qualifying was a tough session as it was a drying track so it was getting quicker and quicker and quicker every lap. We managed to end up in P4 which wasn’t ideal, but good enough to be able to fight in the races.

“In the first ‘qualifying race’, I tried something slightly different with the start which didn’t quite work out so I could only bring it home in 4th.

“Then for the final race and main event, I returned to my normal routine for the start and made a great one to jump straight into P2 from 4th. I was pushing very hard at the beginning and was catching the leader, but after around 15 laps my tyres just dropped away and I wasn’t able to attack the lead any longer. We brought it home and settled for 2nd place.

“All in all it was a very good weekend with a lot of positives to take into the final rounds of the season for FIA F3.”

The FIA F3 European Championship now heads to Germany this weekend.
