Wisbech Grammar School’s teams, inspired by seeing ex-pupil Ali Price in the starting line-up for Scotland in their 29-13 win over Wales in the Six Nations, have been going from strength to strength.
Price has been chosen to start at scrum half for Scotland in the Calcutta Cup Match between England and Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday (March 11).
The springboard to Ali’s professional career was playing for Scottish Exiles. Current 5th Form pupil, George Lemon (King’s Lynn), follows that same path having played for the Exiles’ U16 team against Scotland in Newcastle on February 25 which ended in a closely fought 17-17 draw.
Other representative honours include Jack Trundley and Lemon being selected for the Independent School’s National U16 side.
Rugby head Alex Laybourne, commenting on an exciting few weeks at Wisbech Grammar, said: “It has been a brilliant and promising start to the year for Rugby at Wisbech Grammar.
“Our teams’ hard work is paying off and I am delighted for both Jack and George who have done exceptionally well. They have worked hard to take their opportunities for representative selection and should be congratulated on their achievements, of which I am sure there will be plenty more both on the rugby field and off it.”
