Wisbech had a very encouraging start to the season with a well earned win.

The away team started very brightly with some excellent link play through the midfield trio of Shelley Jones, Laura Overland and Leanne Williamson.

Williamson picked up a long ball straight from a 16 yard hit and cleverly worked her way through the Peterborough defence to slot the ball home. Wisbech soon found themselves two goals in front with a well taken effort from Overland.

Wisbech did leave themselves open at the back at times and Peterborough made the most of this with a well taken goal midway through the first half and they very nearly equalised but for a timely goalline clearance from Ali Mason.

However, Wisbech continued to attack, and just before the break earned a telling short corner. Jones demonstrated great persistence when she scrambled the ball home.

The 2nd half started with more of the same from Wisbech when Overland scored an excellent goal again. Wisbech were perhaps undone by an overall lack of fitness, with the home side scoring twice in quick succession and this led to a nervy final few minutes before Wisbech hung on for victory.

Player of the match was Leanne Williamson.

A youthful Wisbech side made a brilliant start to the season.

Two early strikes from Jade Long, both set up by Kimberley Stimpson, saw Wisbech take a commanding lead in the first 10 minutes. As half-time approached Stimpson struck, this was soon followed by an unfortunate short corner which saw the home side pull one back.

Midway through the second half a brilliant run down the wing from Emma Robb saw Long complete her hat-trick with a back post tap in.

A player of the match performance from Georgie Woolmer saw Wisbech home.
