Wisbech Town

Ladies 2nds 2

Newmarket 1

Wisbech started the weekend six points adrift of 10th placed Newmarket on Saturday.

After a five-week gap since their previous fixture it took a while for the team to find their touch.

All of the goals came in the first half with Wisbech scoring the first two through Gilly Dunn, who was also player of the match.

It was a really solid team performance overall in the first part of their weekend double-header

From the first whistle Shelley Coleman led the attack resulting in an early goal.

A pass from Emma was turned in confidently by Holly Stevenson.

Wisbech dominated the first half, although there was a real battle going on between the two teams in midfield.

Just before the break Emma scored a second by slipping the ball into the goal.

Wisbech continued to attack and scored a third early in the second half via Coleman.

Next week Wisbech host Bourne Deeping 2nds at 1pm.

Wisbech Town Men’s 4ths 1 St Ives 4ths 9

The first half showed that Wisbech all had a few too many mince pies and the high of the previous game was a mere memory.

The experience of the opposition showed and they took a 5-1 lead into half-time.

The second half was a better performance. Josh Anderson worked hard throughout the game, giving the team width and space on the right.

Man of Match: Josh Anderson.

Wisbech Ladies 2nds 3

Lindum 2nds 0

Wisbech carried on where they had left off from the previous day in very positive fashion when they faced bottom placed Lindum in this re-arranged game.

The first goal came when Jo Gomm found the right-hand corner from close range.

Sue Robinson entertained her team-mates and spectators with some typical no nonsense hockey, and a great conversion to score the second goal, her first of the season.

The third came from a short corner when Robinson slipped the ball to Lou Sandall who slammed the ball home with a great strike.

Wisbech do need to work on their short corner routines but rose one place in the table to 10th, going above Newmarket on goal difference.
