Wisbech Ladies 1sts 3 Norwich Dragons 4
This hockey defeat leaves Wisbech’s Premier chances of survival incredibly slim with three very tough fixtures left to play.
They take on league leaders Bedford away next weekend.
Wisbech started well, but Norwich struck first when they caught Wisbech napping and the visitors went a goal up inside five minutes. With the best response possible Wisbech pulled back level, with a neat deflection from Leanne Williamson.
With both teams creating some brilliant attacking moves, Norwich were awarded a penalty flick for a mistimed tackle from the Wisbech keeper, which was well converted.
Work rate up front saw Wisbech winning the ball back high up the pitch and as a result Lisa Williamson cut the defence with an inch-perfect pass to Charlie Paine on the baseline, whose finish from an acute angle was equally as impressive, to bring the score to 2-2 at half-time.
With Wisbech needing to push for the points, in doing so they left themselves open and the counter-attacking Dragons took the lead despite some brilliant goalkeeping from Rosie Stevenson. Dragons netted shortly after, in similar style to their third.
Some excellent tackling from Sophie Culshaw won Wisbech a lot of turnover ball on the right but the superb Dragons keeper kept the countless attacks out.
The hosts pulled a goal back in the last play of the game with an excellently worked penalty corner deflected home by Paine, to bring a slightly truer reflection of the game.
