Wisbech lose to late try

Wisbech 10, Wanstead 12

Wisbech lost again on Saturday at home to promotion contenders Wanstead despite a very spirited performance.

“It is just not going our way at the moment,” said club manager Cliff Humphreys.

Mark Laws, back at full back after a shoulder injury, made a crucial defensive tackle preventing a try. Winger Joe Barfoot touched down in the corner. Wisbech were at the break 5-0 up.

Barfoot stole in for his second try which restored the lead at 10-7. From a penalty from behind the referee’s back and not from the mark Wanstead crossed the line and the try was given despite protests from Wisbech’s captain.
