Aston Martin V8 Vantage racer Jake Giddings from Wisbech is back for a Pro-Am GT4 Class title bid in the hugely competitive British GT Championship this season, after confirming his return to the prestigious series with 2015 team-mate Kieran Griffin and the JWB Motorsport squad.

Unveiling a brand new black, green and orange livery during the category’s pre-season ‘Media Day’ at Jake’s home track, Snetterton 300 Circuit, on Tuesday, he stated his appetite for success in 2016 as he seeks to challenge again for the GT4 title he won two years ago.

Partnering with Hertfordshire businessman Griffin for the first time last year during JWB’s maiden season at British GT level, the team-mates encountered mixed fortunes but did climb the podium at Rockingham with an excellent top three finish and ended the season sixth in Pro-Am.

Targeting continued progress and improvements for ‘amateur’ racer Griffin this year, 21-year-old Giddings is hopeful upgrades applied to the team’s Aston Martin over the winter will help the squad become consistent podium challengers during the new campaign which starts next month.

“Obviously Kieran is in his second year now, he’s got his head round things more and we’re all recharged from the winter and looking to have a strong season”, said Giddings. “We’ve got a couple of upgrades to the car, including a different gearbox, and the championship has new tyres with Pirelli as well. We’ve got a new colour scheme too so everything feels fresh and pretty exciting.

“We only had one test before yesterday, that went well, so the aim is to just keep chipping away with Kieran and getting him more and more competitive. With a full year of experience, he’s much more aware of the quicker GT3 cars on track and what he needs to do. He’s definitely getting up to speed faster, I’m sure it’s going to be a good season for all of us with some good progress.”

The new colour scheme of the JWB car reflects backing Griffin brings into the new campaign from Irish TV, as well as Essendon Country Club and Essendon Group. Jake, meanwhile, retains welcome personal sponsorship for the 2016 season from Finesse Paving and Civil Engineering, Cowley Road Garage and Toppesfield.

Of the 32 car British GT grid for the opening event at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit on April 16/17, no less than 18 cars will feature in the GT4 class – promising a fierce battle for honours and the prospect of some outstanding racing.

“Even though last year was a tough season, we did manage to get the podium at Rockingham so I’d like to get at least a couple this year”, added Giddings.

“We need to push hard to put up the best fight we can in the Pro-Am championship. The GT4 class is looking strong again, there are a lot of cars and some good variety in there, so it should be an exciting season.”
