Wisbech start season at home

Wisbech start their London NE3 League campaign with a home game against Harlow on Saturday at Chapel Road, kick off 3pm.

The seconds are away in the Norfolk Merit League to Lakenham and Hewitt.

“Preseason has gone well and both squads are itching to get going,” said club manager Cliff Humphreys.

“We do not know that much about Harlow but they are a side from Essex and are bound to be physical.”

However, there was a disappointing turnout at Peterborough 2nd on Saturday in a warm-up fixture as only 13 Wisbech players made themselves available.

Peterborough graciously lent Wisbech a player and agreed to play a 12 a side game. Although going down by 4 tries to 3 the squad put up a spirited performance in extremely hot conditions.

Cliff Humphreys added: “It was a solid work out although we did not really get that much out of the game as a number of players played out of position.”

Training has now been changed to Wednesday evening at 7pm.

It is up to the players to make themselves available for selection and to attend.
