Wisbech Swimming Club began the new competition season in Bedford on September 12, with the continuation of the Junior Fenland League.

The Wisbech junior team dominated Round 5 from the outset, its swimmers displaying incredible spirit as they worked relentlessly to a 178-point victory, leaving second-place March Marlins on 138 points.

Wisbech finished the event with 16 first places from 44 races, while 17 swimmers achieved an impressive total of 24 new personal best times between them; even when they weren’t winning, the Wisbech swimmers were barely off the pace, taking 15 second places and seven thirds.

On a night of outstanding competition, three swimmers took multiple wins – Joe Whittaker 9 years 25m butterfly, 50m breaststroke (PB) and 10/U freestyle (PB); Lucy O’Neil 10/U 50m breaststroke and butterfly, (both for new PBs); and Louisa Rowell 11/U 50m backstroke and breaststroke (both PBs).

The youngsters are training for the Junior Fenland League final on October 17.
