Narrow defeat in annual friendly

Wisbech Town lost out by just three runs in their annual friendly against the MCC at Harecroft Road last Wednesday and Thursday.

The home team were set 250 to win the game in the second innings and going into the final over looked to be in a good position with four runs required and two wickets to fall but they were all out for 247.

Simon Freear and Dom Stannard, who both scored 39, had added 76 for the eighth wicket before Stannard was out on the first ball of the last over.

MCC: 227-1 and 245-6 dec (C Johnson 2-68, G Freear 3-65).

Wisbech: 222-7 (D Wood 54 no, S Albutt 35, D Stannard 33) and 247 all out (G Freear 43).
