Going Cuckoo for good sport

If there is one water in the area that you can rely on for a cracking days sport now the cold weather has gone it’s the Cuckoo Canal pool on the Townsend Lakes complex at Upwell.

Both teams performed with  great credit throughout. The Blues went on to win the fair play award, this was out of 40 teams, they have now won this award twice in 3years.

Wisbech Lawn Tennis Club staged their annual John Bown Memorial Trophy on Sunday.

Shotokan special training

A Samurai Shotokan Karate School special training event was attended by 80 students at the Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech.

A momentous occasion took place for some of the students from the Bushido Warrior Karate School with the first Black belt grading since the school was founded.
The eligible students were put through 3 hours of tests which are designed to take them beyond there physical and mental limits. This was carried out in front of an examination panel consisting of very high ranking martial artists.
Passes were Oliver Howley and Jack Smyth first Dan Adult and Aaron Frost first Dan Junior. Also taking part in preparation for his Black Belt next year was Junior Liam Horspole. Sensei Richard Smyth who is the founder of the School also passed his 3rd Dan Black Belt.

A momentous occasion took place for some of the students from the Bushido Warrior Karate School with the first Black Belt grading since the school was founded.

I understand that my mother, Geraldine Malone has been in contact with you about the recent achievement made by her grandson (Thomas Freer) at the National Tang Soo Do Championships held in Nottingham on 27 April 2013.
I attach a couple of photos that you may want to use in the article.  The group photo shows Thomas with his instructor, Donna Harvey and the other trophy winners from his club. Names of the other club members in the photo are Sophia Stanton, Kyle Campbell & Victoria McCarthy.
A brief background:
Thomas is 14 years old and is a member of the Wisbech & Hunstanton Tang Soo Do club. He  only took up the sport at the end of September last year. He entered his very first competition (the National Championships) to gain some experience and didnt expect to be placed, let alone win the 2 categories he entered for his age group (14-16 year old) and rank (orange belt).

Fifteen Fenland Running Club members took part in the field of 1,557 who completed the Bespak Great East Anglia Run in Kings Lynn on Sunday. In good conditions, if a little warm in the sun, all FRC runners completed the course within the hour. First home was Shane Draper in 38.43. Also under the 40 minute barrier was Richard Hammond in 39.16.
