CRICKET: Grant awarded to March youth team

Fenland Youth District Council has awarded a grant of £500 to March Town Cricket Club's junior section to assist in coaching, coaching courses and for new equipment.

The youth council is made up of representatives from Fenland's secondary schools to ensure there is a voice for young people in Fenland. They also have some money available to assist voluntary and community groups in the Fenland area to provide activities for young people.

March Town Cricket Club chairman Les Mills said: "We are very pleased to receive the grant from the members of the Fenland Youth District Council. We coach U11, U13 and U15 boys teams as well as a girls/ladies team.

"We also run a three-day cricket festival for over 100 boys and girls so the grant is gratefully received.

"We may not find the next Kevin Pietersen or Charlotte Edwards but we can ensure the youngsters can have a go and enjoy the game. My thanks also to Ross McGivern the Community Development Officer."
