Chatteris cueman Joe Perry came so close to knocking defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan out of the snooker World Championship on Saturday.

The Rocket reached the Dafabet quarter-finals 13-11 in Sheffield after Perry led 9-7 overnight.

In the best-of-25 match the next four frames were shared, before O’Sullivan won three straight ones to move ahead for the first time at 12-11. He finished the match with a break of 113.

Perry added: “I’m gutted. I gave it everything I had but I just ran into a genius at the end.”
