Wisbech Town Cricket Club first team leapfrogged last week’s leaders March to go top of the Cambs Tucker Premier League Division One.

Hosts Wisbech beat visitors Sawston by 51 runs after winning the toss to go 13 points clear of second place Godmanchester. March are in third.

Wisbech posted 162 all out in 46 overs with James Williams compiling 52 and Gary Freear 39.

They dismissed the visitors for 111 in 32.4 overs with in-form New Zealand quick bowler Bradley Perrett taking 4-39 off 12 overs, running through the top order, and Williams completing a superb all-round match with 5-36 off 9.4 and disposing of the tail. Craig Johnson added 1-17.

Town skipper Alan Burton said: “It was a very good win and bowling performance.

“We were under par with the bat but came back strongly in the field and we took all our chances.

“We did a lot of work to get the track ready (after heavy rain in the past 48 hours). The wicket was good but it and the outfield were a bit slow.”

Next weekend Wisbech should have an unchanged side when they travel to Foxton.

Town skipper Alan Burton said: “We don’t want to change a winning formula.”
