Pair add 200 in trophy defence

Chatteris began the defence of the Fenland Trophy in style by smash-ing local rivals March by 173 runs on Sunday.

Winning the toss, returning captain Max Kelly elected to bat and despite losing opener Kurt Cunningham in the first over, it soon looked a great choice.

The 15-year-old Liam Boxall scored a flawless 51 before succumbing to Mark Quale, but then Joe Menarry came to join Olly Fox at the crease. For the remaining 23 overs Fox and Menarry were relentless, collecting 40 fours and four sixes between them, putting on 208 runs. Fox finished with a career best of 130 not out and Menarry also a personal best of 112 not out.

In reply, March always looked light with the bat and struggled from the start, eventually ending with a below par 154 with tops scorers Stephen Wallis 41 and David Haslegrave 40.
