Weakened side beaten

A much-weakened Wisbech Sunday first team lost by six wickets to Orton Park in the Rutland League Division Two.

Wisbech batted first and suffered an early collapse before Carl Pope 65 and Matt Esser 18 pulled off a recovery. Danny Emmington also contributed 25 as Wisbech eventually reached 189 for nine in the 45 overs.

Orton Park were never in much trouble and reached the target with six wickets and six overs in hand. Occasional bowler Simon Freear took two for 53 off 12 overs.

Wisbech seconds lost by three wickets to Thrapston in a low scoring game in Rutland League Division 5.

They suffered an early batting collapse before number six Lyndon Waters 36 and Ryan Van Waterschoot 24 restored some pride with an eighth wicket partnership. But they only reached 117 all out.

Thrapston stuttered along but reached the winning total with the comfort of three wickets in hand after 31 overs. Brad Apted took two for nine off six overs.

Wisbech seconds also lost out by seven wickets against Cottenham in CCA Senior Division 2 on Saturday.

Opener Danny Haynes top scored with 48 but his first three partners did not stay long as Wisbech slipped to 17 for three at one point.

Charles Baxter 25 and Dom Stannard 16 stemmed the tide and with Danny Emmington adding 18 Wisbech reached 145 for eight in the 45 overs.

Cottenham were soon in command in the run chase and although Zak Brown removed the two openers they reached the winning total for the loss of just three wickets in 35.1 overs.

Wisbech fourths suffered a batting collapse which led to a five-wicket defeat against Willingham in CCA Junior Division 3A.

The Wisbech innings started well enough with Martin Knowles 24, Charlie Wood 14 and James Sheppard 13 but they slumped after that and were all out for just 94.

This total was hardly going to be enough but the experienced David Le Moir certainly played his part with four wickets for 20 runs off 10 overs. It was slow work from Willingham but they got home for the loss of five wickets in the 37th over.
