Defending champions Wisbech Town CC have fallen to third in the Cambs Tucker Gardner Division 1 title race after losing at Foxton/Babraham JV by 8 wickets on Saturday.

The visitors struggled against Foxton/Babraham’s opening bowlers Cousins and Douglas who did the majority of the work and took four wickets each, while Wisbech subsided to 76-7.

Fortunately top scorer Matt Esser 43 not out with the aid of the tail almost doubled the tally.

Clearly Wisbech’s 147 all out proved not to be enough and the hosts knocked off the runs comfortably for the loss of two wickets.

The Freear brothers grabbed a wicket each, but Foxton responded with an unbeaten stand of 76.

Scores: Wisbech 147 all out in 44 overs (D Cousins 16-6-32-4, J Douglas 15-1-60-4).

Foxton/Babraham 149-2 in 37.2 overs (G Freear 10-2-35-1, S Freear 7-2-16-1).
