Wisbech Town CC secured a Tucker Gardner Division One winning draw with Histon despite overseas player Andy Lane breaking his ankle in training on Friday night.
“Andy broke it while doing fielding practice. It’s in a cast and he’s having an X-ray. He’ll probably miss half the sesason,” said skipper Alan Burton.
Without their Kiwi batsman, Wisbech still posted a competitive total of 221-7 in 48 overs on Saturday but were frustrated when Histon soon shut up shop after losing their first couple of wickets.
Burton (71) and Danny Haynes (97) put on 124 for the first wicket. Haynes was last out just before the end, run out for 97.
There were cameos from Sam Albutt 12 and Simon Freear 10.
Histon limped to 141-9 in 48 overs, the hosts having precious little time to winkle out the tailenders.
Wisbech were led by senior bowlers Gary Freear 11-6-19-2 and James Williams 13-3-33-4.
Also taking wickets were Simon Freear 11-0-46-1, Sam Rippington 10-4-24-1 and Burton, who put himself on for an over to take 1-10.
“Danny played superbly,” added Burton.
