Champions Wisbech Town CC took the Cambs Tucker League cricket derby spoils on Saturday, ending March Town’s sequence of four wins.
Their 125-run triumph keeps Wisbech in touch with the top three teams.
March skipper Chris Ringham said: “We were outplayed in all departments.”
Cambs player Gary Freear showed the visitors how to bat on a flat Harecroft Road pitch and his 82 helped the hosts to 238-6 declared in 46 overs. Josh Bowers and Freear added 65 for the fourth wicket while Freear (48 runs in the stand) dominated a sixth-wicket partnership of 70 with brother Simon Freear.
Callum Young took figures of 4-42, making it 16 wickets in his last three games against Wisbech.
Having started the game with only 10 men, the visitors’ bowling plans were disrupted when the in-form Tyler Phillips arrived late. By then Wisbech were 78-1.
Young immediately took out opener Andrew Lane and dismissed home skipper Alan Burton, who starred for Cambs during the week. However Freear took charge before eventually falling to Phillips.
March’s David Hodson departed first ball to Sam Rippington and with Australian Steve Seymour also failing to score it was left to fellow Aussie Stephen Shaw to top-score with 41 in the all out total of 113.
March man of the match: Callum Young.
Next Saturday both teams travel to lower-table sides in Tucker Gardner Division One, March at Waresley and Wisbech at Cambridge NCI.
