A group for youngsters in Walpole Highway and their families is proving popular, with around 30 kids enjoying each Friday session just weeks after opening.
Groovy Tots and Baby Disco is hosted by Skaters Roller Rink in Mill Road, and has already seen a huge response in the few weeks it has been running.
Manager Gary Evison said: “It’s a way of using our venue during the day and it puts a smile on my face – it was obviously something that was missing in the village.
“This is such a great venue for such a lot of things – a fantastic space – and the idea came from London clubs that open in the day for toddler groups.
“The toddlers and babies come along with mum and dad. There are no skates, instead we put out loads of toys and ball pits and they can just play. They have a whale of a time!”
The sessions are held every Friday morning and are already welcoming 20 to 30 children every week, while parents can spend time in the cafe where refreshments, including home-made cakes, are on offer.
Gary said: “It’s becoming really popular already and is obviously a great thing for the community, people can walk here from the village and while the children are playing, the parents can chat.
“They’ve already been saying the kids are falling asleep in the car on the way home – they’re enjoying it so much when they’re here!”
Running every Friday from 9.30am to 11am, the sessions cost £3 per child.
If there are two or more in the family, the first child costs £3 and every other costs £2. Those under 10 months go free.
