Nissan pioneers new car-sharing scheme; first purchases expected in April

Nissan’s new Micra goes on sale in the first part of 2017. And from April, you’ll be able to buy it on timeshare.

Under the company’s Intelligent Get and Go Micra scheme, customers will be able to buy a car collectively. Individuals within an owner group will then have access to the car when they need it – with co-owners taking over at other times.

Nissan will administer the groups, using social media profile-matching to bring together customers whose driving needs are compatible with each other. The actual physical business of sharing a car will be smoothed along by phone apps and location services.

The Micra itself will be a 0.9-litre Acenta with Bose ICE. Customers will pay a membership fee to cover its running costs, plus a per-mile fee for their use of the car.
