Gareth Wells campaign already has a lorra lorra support to get one of Cilla’s biggest hits, You’re My World, back on top of the charts.

The 72-year-old Blind Date and Surprise Surprise host died at her Spanish villa on August 1.

Mr Wells has launched an online petition and website calling on Parlophone Reccords to re-release You’re My World and Love of the Loved.

His Facebook campaign already has 11,000 likes and is backed by support from actress Sheridan Smith, Mike Smith, Mike Stock and Noel Edmonds. Mr Wells, 35, of Norman Way, said: “I just thought it would be nice to have some pure British talent as Christmas Number One rather than X-Factor or anything novelty.

“A lot of people of my generation would only associate Cilla with her television career, rather than as a singer.

“Let’s get her to Number One to honour her, as she was a national treasure.”

Liverpool-born singer Cilla, who was friends with The Beatles, rose to fame in the 1960s.

Her first hit was Love of the Loved in 1963 and You’re My World was her second number one.
