Three Holes Village Hall has been targeted by arsonists for the second time.
Luckily only the stage suffered damage, but it was still a blow for the committee after the hall had to be refurbished in 2011 following a fire.
The mystery arsonist struck on Thursday, January 31 at around 1.30pm. The fire was discovered by a committee member who immediately contacted the fire brigade, minimising the damage.
“Members of the Outwell fire crew alerted my husband and I as they knew we were hall committee members. We met them at the last fire in April 2011,” said Rita Cuss. “We are absolutely stunned, bewildered and angry that this has happened all over again but very relieved that we don’t need to close the building this time.”
Although the bookings for the Thursday evening bowls and Friday auction had to be cancelled, the only other event that has been cancelled at this point is the Valentine Dance planned for Saturday.
The dance, organised by the Jazz Club, has been postponed as a precaution until the stage structure has been professionally checked. People who purchased tickets for the dance will be fully refunded.
A children’s party booked for Saturday, February 2 was able to go ahead and the THVH committee are fairly confident that no further bookings will need to be cancelled and the regular events programme will continue as usual.
Fire brigade investigators confirmed that the fire had been started deliberately and Norfolk Police are now dealing with the matter. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555111.
