A hive of creative activity
The year is going fast! I’m ok with winter, but would prefer a lot more sun – even if it’s cold.
However, there’s plenty of indoor activities going on – especially new workshops in all kinds of arts and crafts.
The latest one I’ve heard of is glass etching with Andlis Design, which I think would be a lovely craft to learn.
I recently learned to dip plates in nail polish to create a marbled effect, so alongside the glass engraving I could create a whole, unique, set and enjoy learning something new, too!
I intend to visit Andlis Design and see what else they have nearby. They’re on Lynn Road, Walsoken, with Bambers Garden Centre and The Aviation Museum.
The other workshops I’ve recently heard about are run in town and are Flower Arranging, Woodwork and Silver Jewellery. Alongside my Crochet and Sewing, and all the clubs that have been going some years, Wisbech is getting to be quite a hive of creative activity!
I’m thinking of putting together a directory of activities, and perhaps an event to demonstrate them all – what do you think? My Facebook page is available for comments (search Red Barn Creative), or Twitter (@redbcreative) as well as email and dropping a note in to the Institute on Hill Street. If you run a class or workshop let me know!
Coming up this week is Beginner’s Crochet at the Institute, 2-4pm, tomorrow (Thursday); then at the Library this Saturday, pop in for a chat and a coffee to celebrate National Libraries Day.
If you’ve never been in, come and say hi, find out everything your library has to offer. Next Saturday, the 13th, there’s a Quiz Night in aid of the Mayor’s charities, email them for more details (civics@wisbechtown council.org.uk).
While it’s not an activity, or a hidden gem, I still want to say ‘thank you’ to the Horsefair for upgrading their car park and making the free time longer.
They’re the nearest car park to the Institute, so those coming to my classes can now park there for free. I’m sure that was the plan all along, thank you...!
