Appeal for Wisbech play area after fire

An appeal has gone out to help improve a vandalised play area.

Firefighters were called to The Spinney on Wisbech Road, Wisbech just after 5am on Monday, September 28, when the climbing frame was alight.

Now the playworkers and the children are determined to rebuild the area and are looking for ideas.

Everyone is invited to submit suggestions – which could be photographs, drawings, words or any other idea.

Ideas can be submitted by email to friendsofwisbechap@gmail.com or posted on the Facebook page, or brought to the playground. Playworkers are keen to involve as many people as possible.

If anybody knows of any local businesses who might be able to help out with materials, or local contractors who might be able to offer some time, ask them to get in touch.

Ward member Michael Bucknor said the fire at the play area has affected the community.

He said: “The Spinney is a very well-loved play area by youngsters in the area and this fire has affected many young people.

“There are a couple of people who do not like to hear the young people screaming, but they are in the minority.

“This is an asset which a lot of children have helped to add to over the years.”
