A FORMER Outwell pensioner is heading to the other side of the world for a massive fundraiser.
Ken Allday (79), who moved to Durham seven years ago, is jetting off to Australia next month, where he will scale the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
He is raising money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham, where his late wife Joan spent her final weeks.
He said: “Joan loved the hospice. She called it next door to heaven and described the staff as angels. I wanted to do something totally unique to give back to them for everything they did for Joan and everything they continue to do for me.”
Ken lived in Outwell for most of his life and his son Stephen attended the local school.
Stephen now lives in Australia and will be doing the climb with his dad. His wife, Janice, will also be joining in.
