Yet another bank branch is set to close in Fenland early in the new year it has been announced this week.

“Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, internet banking, or calling us instead. This means they are using branches, including our Wisbech branch much less.”

In fact, figures produced by Lloyds showed there had been a 57% drop in the number of personal customer transactions over the counter or using the immediate deposit machine between April 2019 and April 24.

There was a similar, 55%, drop in the number of business customers using the branch.

Cashpoint transactions had dropped by 59% for personal customers and 65% for business customers in the same period.

The figures showed that only a third of personal customers, 36%, had used the closing branch and the Post Office in the 12 months up to April 2024.

The regular monthly branch usage was 647 customers in four out of six months ending in April 2024.

The vast majority of those using the branch were aged between 35 and 74. Most of those using the branch were personal customers, 90%, compared to 10% business customers.

The letter adds: “Branch colleagues will support you to get started with our mobile banking app and Internet banking.”

Lloyds customers can also do their everyday banking at the Post Office.

The nearest LLyods Branch will be King’s Lynn once the bank closes as the banking firm is also closing its March branch.

Closure of the March branch was announced in August and it is due to close its doors for the last time on October 29.

Lloyds has announced it is closing 237 branches in 2024/25.
