A Benwick man will pay tribute to three relatives when he takes on a 50-mile cycle challenge for charity.
Colin Smith is taking part in the Great Notts Bike Ride on June 26 in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, and hopes his efforts will raise around £300 for the cause.
The 68-year-old said: “I decided to take part in the event in memory of three of my relatives lost to Alzheimer’s disease in recent years.
“It is a devastating condition and the effects are particularly hard on carers and other family members, watching their condition deteriorate as the disease runs its course.
“I’m hoping that by raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society more support can be provided for carers, as well as helping the society to continue its search for a cure.”
Mr Smith took up cycling a couple of years ago to help keep fit and is stepping up his training in preparation for the 50-mile ride.
He said: “It will be the first time I’ve ridden that distance, so it will be a real challenge.”
