Bid for 40 new homes in Outwell opposed

Plans to build 40 new homes in Outwell have been opposed by council planners on safety grounds.

Permission is being sought to develop a site next to 36 Wisbech Road.

But members of the West Norfolk Council planning committee have been urged to reject the scheme when they meet in Lynn on Monday, following concerns raised by county roads officials.

A report published ahead of the meeting said: “It has not been demonstrated that a safe access from the site onto Wisbech Road can be achieved.”

The local parish council has indicated its support for the scheme, though it is concerned about the potential impact of the development on local services.

The applicants have also argued there should be a presumption in favour of the scheme, because of the borough’s recent lack of housing land.

But planners said there were now “no special circumstances” that would justify permitting the proposal.
