Braving the elements

Two members of 272 (Wisbech) Squadron took part in a week long adventure training expedition in the Lake District. It was the coldest Windermere camps in a long time with sub-zero conditions and heavy snow. Warrant Officer Les Wardle and Cadet Corporal Ross Chadney (16) took part in activities such as rock climbing, hill walking, abseiling and orienteering.

The course is a team building exercise for the cadets both in the mountains and at base and they took turns in cooking. The camp is limited to 30 cadets and gaining a place is an achievement.

The cadets completed a number of mountain peaks during the week including Loughrigg, Catbells and Wansfell Pike. Corporal Chadney also completed the National Navigation Award Scheme to Bronze level.

Later in the year there will be an opportunity to attend the Air Training Corps’ other centre in north Wales.
