CHATTERIS will boast a bumper weekend of fun in 2012 as the Historic Festival expands to include celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.
The Festivities will run from the June 1 to 4 and will include a Party in the Park, Old Time Music Hall and It’s A Knockout competition. The entertainment is being financed and organised by Chatteris Town Council and Fenland District Council with the help of enthusiastic volunteers from the local community.
Elements of the historic festival will remain including re-enactments and events in the show ring and the popular dog show and strawberry teas will return on the Sunday but the 2012 event will also mark the two most important national occasions for many years.
Local bands, singers, and dancers will all be invited to take part in the Party in the Park which will be held on the Saturday afternoon and evening. The event will be a celebration of local talent and the organisers would like to hear from anyone who would like to be involved.
The Town Band has already been signed up to entertain on the Sunday afternoon at the Old Time Music Hall and a compere is being lined up.
Teams are also being sought to take part in the It’s A Knockout competition on the Bank Holiday Monday. There will be plenty of silly games and challenges to test the competitors’ skills and stamina and it should prove to be a fun day out for all the family.
Three hectic days of entertainment will mean there will be the need for additional stewards to help on the field. Anyone willing to help contact Joanna Melton on 01354-695166 or e-mail email@example.com.
The next open meeting to discuss the plans for the weekend will be held tonight (Wednesday November 16) at 7pm at the Council Chambers, 14 Church Lane, Chatteris.
