Brits fake it, not bake it, this summer

THE British Summer has led to a more than a three-fold increase in sales of self-tanning lotion, value brand 99p Stores has released.

Like-for-like sales of top brands like Coppertone and Malibu have surged compared to the early summer last year as Brits fake it – not bake it – during this wretched British summer.

And the retailer, with more than 2M weekly shoppers across 195 UK and Ireland branches, predicts that the trend could continue over the next few weeks.

“A lot of families are staying home so as not to miss out on the Olympics and Paralympics,” said 99p Stores boss Hussein Lalani.

As well as the three-fold increase in the instant and self-tanning lotion, sales of 99p umbrellas are up 600 per cent.

And other ‘wet’ products like ‘His n Hers’ ponchos (2 for 99p) have also been “flying off shelves”, added Mr Lalani.

99p Stores stocks a wide range of 99p instant and self-tanning lotion including 150ml Malibu self-tanning lotion and mousse, Derma V10 self-tanning lotion and 140ml Expose Tanning Mousse, which sells typically for around £2.99 elsewhere.
