Steve Barclay MP welcomed award-winning food and drink producers from Fenland to parliament as they showcased their wares in the historic Westminster Hall to celebrate Cambridgeshire Food and Drink day.
Award-winning Wisbech brewers Elgood’s, world-record breaking crisp producers Corker’s and Chatteris Goose Farmers L& A E Munns exhibited alongside food and drinks producers from across Cambridgeshire.
The local businesses owners were specially selected by Mr Barclay from the very best food and drink that North East Cambridgeshire has to offer. Mr Barclay took the opportunity to inform Secretary of State for Environment, food and rural affairs Owen Paterson of the great work local farmers and business owners are doing to boost the Fenland economy and encourage local industry.
Mr Barclay said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome these award-winning local businesses to Parliament to offer a wonderful taste of the Fens. Elgood’s, Corkers and Munns are excellent representatives of thriving Fenland businesses and I am so glad they have been able to join us to showcase their delicious produce.
“It’s fantastic that Cambridgeshire food day has provided this opportunity to show MPs, Ministers and key industry decision makers what Fenland has to offer. ”
Cambridgeshire Food day offered Ministers, MPs, parliamentary staff and key figures from the food and drinks industry the opportunity to sample locally produced meat, crisps, cider, wines and sweets and discuss how Government and industry can work together to support and promote local food producers across the region.
