WEIGHING more than 50 tonnes, the largest single piece fabrication ever constructed at Beam Structural Services Limited in March is rotated and positioned ready for loading.
The metal structure takes its place on the lorry as the final piece of a multi-million pound project constructed by the Foundry Way company over the past 18 months for a French food processing company.
Once loaded, the five-metre wide, 21-metre long fabricated assembly made for an impressive sight as it negotiated Fenland roads en-route to its final destination in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The fully assembled structure represents the final significant element of a project which has seen the successful construction of one of Corby’s tallest structures, with the provision of around 500 tonnes of structural steelwork.
Beam Structural Services Limited is one of the three largest fabricators of structural steelwork in East Anglia and secured this project against stiff competition from both UK and European competitors on the basis of its vast experience of projects of this nature, constructed under tight scheduling restrictions within a fully operational production plant.
Richard Melton, from Beam, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been involved with this project, which has helped Beam Structural Services Limited maintain its market position, despite many of our competitors suffering at the hands of the current industry down turn.”
