Following the legal joining of Midlands Co-operative Society with Anglia Co-operative on Sunday December 1 to create one of the largest and most successful UK co-operative societies, members are being asked to vote on a new name for the Society.
Members of the former Midlands and Anglia Societies will be asked to vote on a resolution to adopt a new Society name at a Special Members’ meeting which is to be held at 7pm on Wednesday January15 2014 at Leicester Tigers in Leicester.
The name, which members will vote on, has been chosen with the input of both colleagues and members. The final stage of the selection process was an online members’ survey inviting votes for one of three shortlisted options which ran until Christmas Eve.
The new name will signal the start of a new and exciting future for the society which has projected gross sales of £1 billion, 329,000 regular trading members, and over 500,000 weekly customers across 16 counties.
The legal merger followed months of planning and collaboration between the two societies and received overwhelming support from members of both organisations. The focus of the society in 2014 will be on the gradual integration and harmonisation of the two organisations into one, whilst maintaining a strong focus on business as usual.
