A NEW pub in March will be able to stay open until 2am three nights a week and for special occasions despite opposition from local residents.
Fenland Council’s licensing committee granted an application by J D Wetherspoon, who are currently converting the former Hippodrome cinema into a pub, but with a reduction to the hours applied for.
The pub-chain had wanted to keep the Hippodrome open until 2.30am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and also on special days such as St Patrick’s Day ..
Residents living near the Hippodrome had lodged a petition against the hours raising fears of noise disturbance and anti-social behaviour late at night.
The committee heard from all sides before agreeing to allow the pub to serve alcohol until 1.55am and to close at 2am on the days specified.
