Review of Thea Coffee House & Deli Food in Long Sutton: If you can’t go to Greece, visit a Greek restaurant!

I’ve visited Greece more than any other country, but sadly had to cancel a planned trip to Crete this summer. However, I still had the week off work and so made a long overdue visit to Thea Coffee House & Deli Food in Long Sutton.

The small Greek eatery on the High Street has been in business for nearly a year now, and my son, my daughter, my wife, and even my ex-wife have all reported that it's a wonderful little place!

So on Wednesday lunch time, my wife Josi and I popped in on our way to the cinema in Wisbech.

First impressions were that we should have booked, as the small eating area was rammed, but luckily, there was a space for two in the corner by the window, and we were quickly seated.

Thea’s really is a bustling little place and, everywhere we looked, people were chatting away; a group of work colleagues, a couple of families, a young couple and a mum and daughter.

The pleasant waiter who had shown us to our table soon took our order too. I went for vegan gyros (£8.60) and Josi opted for the avocado and chicken salad (£10.80). For drinks, I had a watermelon granita (£4) and my wife had a pineapple juice (£3).

There was a huge choice of coffees and also teas, hot chocolates, other granitas, coolers, milkshakes and soft drinks, plus a selection of alcohol.

Food-wise, there was a selection of starters, ranging from £3 to £8.55, including tzatziki, homemade keftedes (Greek meatballs) and loukaniko (Greek sausages). Salads, priced from £7.45 to £10.80, included cheese, Ceaser and Cretan Dakos, and among the mains were other meat gyros, skewers, sandwiches and souvlaki. They were priced from £8.50 to £14.50. There were also sharing platters.

Thea’s also do breakfasts, ranging from full English (£10.80) and various rolls to pancakes, omelettes and toasts.

As mentioned, the place was incredibly busy; it was lunchtime, and we hadn’t booked, so although we had quite a wait for our meals, we understood and were happy to chat and enjoy our drinks. The granita was very refreshing on a muggy day, and the juice was fresh and tasty too.

My gyro was wonderful and so stuffed full with plant-based ‘meat’, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and chips that I opted to lay it out on the plate and eat with a knife and fork. The vegan mayo was particularly tasty. Josi enjoyed her meal too and praised the freshness of the avocado.

A selection of sweet treats for dessert was displayed in a glass cabinet and looked gorgeous but we were too stuffed to try them.

We really enjoyed our visit and plan to return for an evening meal… perhaps for breakfast too! Thea’s is open 9am-4pm Sunday to Thursday and 9am-10pm Friday to Saturday.
