Cambridgeshire police supports volunteers week
Cambridgeshire Constabulary is celebrating National Volunteers’ Week by promoting the huge range of opportunities available to people looking to make a difference to their community by volunteering.
The Constabulary, in conjunction with the Office of the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner, offers a variety of ways for volunteers to join us to help create safer, stronger and more supportive communities.
Every day during this week, the force will be highlighting the different opportunities available.
The week starts with a look at the varied roles available to Police Support Volunteers; Tuesday celebrates the work of community Watch Schemes; Wednesday is dedicated to Police Cadets and leaders; Thursday gives an insight into the work of the Victims’ Hub; and Friday’s focus is on Independent Custody Visitors.
To coincide with National Volunteers’ Week, the National Specials Weekend takes place on June 6-7.
On Saturday June 6 the force will be promoting the work of our existing Specials and encouraging new people to join, as we celebrate their work through a series of ‘selfies’ on Twitter (@CambsCops) and Instagram (instagram.com/cambscops) and read accounts of their experiences on our blog (cambscops.wordpress.com).
To end the week, the force look at the work undertaken by our dedicated volunteer Chaplains.
Inspector Paul Rogerson, Force Lead for Police Service Volunteers, said: “Having volunteers working with us is a great way of allowing the public to influence how we work.
“It also means we have an opportunity to be more transparent as the public can see first-hand how we work.
“Our volunteers come from all walks of life and join for all number of reasons, but the contribution they make is enormous.”
