A campaign is being launched to save Downham’s under threat registrar’s office.
Norfolk County Council is looking to close the Paradise Road office as part of a bid to save £111 million over three years.
Mayor John Fox says Downham Town Council has already written to county hall in a bid to save the office.
He is also calling on people in the community to also write to support the busy registrar’s office.
Mr Fox said: “We have to bear in mind that we have a reasonably elderly population and it is not always easy to get to Lynn.
“We also have applications to build large numbers of houses in the area so we are looking at births and marriages as well as deaths. We feel it will be a false economy to close the registrar office.”
